Love this {boys birthday from mer mag}

My sister Merrilee (of mer mag) just threw the cutest party for her son. I loved it so much I had to share! Don't you just love the red feathers she put on the favors with a clothes pin? And speaking of clothes pins, aren't those cupcakes just awesome? I love the table spread it is so simple and perfectly arranged. It is just the thing I have been wishing to do for my parties but have never really achieved. And that pirate ship cake! Wow what a cool party, I wish I could have been there. Thanks for posting these Sis! You're a super woman!

I made them! {Rosette Cookies}

Remember this post where I bought these?
Well I finaly made some, and boy are they GOOOOD!
They are so delicate and crispy!
Very rich, too; shouldn't have eaten so many. :0
Below are the rosette cookies I made this afternoon. Enjoy!
(Scroll to bottom of this post for a little tutorial!)

Just look at how neat they look on the inside, (below) they're so lacy and fragile.

Here below is the only surviving butterfly cookie.
I made these last and was running out of batter, oh well, kind of
pretty and sculptural looking though.

Here is one of the last blobs of batter I poured into the oil.
Not crispy and light at all, but they were still super yummy.
(Tasted a little like the funnel cake you get at the fair.)
Want a mini tutorial? :)
Well here you go then...

*************************************************************************************
--How to make rosette cookies--

  • Make your batter ( I used Martha's)
  • Heat your oil. (Not too hot; if they're burning then turn down the heat or put cookie in for less time.)
  • Heat the iron in the oil till it's hot too.
  1. Dip hot rosette cookie iron into batter. Be sure NOT to cover the top of the iron with any batter. (cookie won't come off)
  2. Batter should coat the iron nicely.
  3. Put battered iron in the oil and submerge it. Let it get pretty brown on the edges, tastes way better.
  4. cookies may come off the iron in the oil so I scooped them out with a spaghetti spoon. Be sure and drain oil from inside of cookie. AND sprinkle generously with powdered sugar
*************************************************************************************

Everyone in the world MUST try these at least once in their life! (Or maybe much more than once) Have a great day!

    I wish I could prance around in sandals and pretty spring frocks! Alas our warmer weather (50 degrees is warm for Logan) is probably not here for good. My hubby would look so great in one of those jackets!

    Frida Hyvönen - Silence Is Wild

    FRIDA HYVÖNEN
    Silence Is Wild CD / LP (11/04/08)
    Having come out of a year of isolation, Frida Hyvönen paired up once again with Swedish producer Jari Haapalainen in Stockholm's famous Atlantis studio and made her second full-length Silence Is Wild -- due November 4th, 2008 on Secretly Canadian. Whereas Hyvönen's 2006 debut Until Death Comes was lean and percussive with her distinctive oompah-styled piano and direct lyrics, Silence Is Wild stretches her voice across lush arrangements of piano, strings, choirs, and synths.

    Piano-based antecedents and contemporaries such as Carole King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Plush, and Antony and the Johnsons generally feel like appropriate touchstones for discussing the Swedish singer-songwriter's recorded work. Lyrically, however, Hyvönen is in more open waters, as she forges her own stylistic path as a songwriter. "December", for instance, is a simple -- almost banal -- song about abortion that has been utterly stripped of emotion and showcases her distinct talent for political & social ambivalence. On "Pony" she flips the Smog classic "I Break Horses" on its head. Bill Callahan's confidence bristled on the latter as he sang "I break horses / I don't tend to them / I break horses / They seem to come to me / Asking to be broken / They seem to run to me." On Silence Is Wild's "Pony", Hyvönen sings:

    The stable is where you learn to
    be in charge and not take shit
    Dressed to the occasion
    leather boots and a stiff black whip
    I don't even have to use it!
    I just hold it like this;
    my pony knows when she sees it
    that does she not behave
    she will get to taste it

    On Silence is Wild, Hyvönen continues to take an utterly modern approach to classic songwriting forms: blending the confessional with the fictional; mixing wit with a sexuality that shifts from the refined to the raw; all the while using language which dances effortlessly between the timeless and the contemporary, referencing high art and pop culture in a transcendent manner which masterfully puts Hyvönen at the top of a new international class of singer-songwriters.

    TOKYO - Jil Sander is making her long-awaited comeback - but in a fast-fashion way.

    The German designer is on the brink of signing a "design consulting agreement" to oversee the men's and women's apparel at Japanese retail giant Uniqlo, according to a well-placed source. Sander and executives from Uniqlo's parent company Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., have called a press conference here Tuesday to outline the terms of the deal.
